Kilkivan Great Horse Ride  (31 March 2012)

The ride:   Each year, in excess of 1000 riders depart from various towns in the Kilkivan Shire and spend the day meandering through some spectacular countryside.  They wind up in the main street of Kilkivan town at around 4.00pm for the Grand Parade before 'kicking back' to an evening of campfires and entertainment at the local showgrounds.  If you can make it to this event it is well worth the effort!
Facilities for you:  Camping at Kilkivan Showgrounds - showers, toilets, food stalls, entertainment.  Various other venues - contact the organisers for further information.
Facilities for your horse:  Limited yards (BYO yards is safest), water available.

The ride:   Ride an undulating trail of about 28 km.  Enjoy billy tea for smoko, and a BBQ lunch, or BYO.
Facilities for you:  Camping, food and free entertainment are available on Friday night at Turavale.
Gold coin donation for transport back to your horse floats.
  Camping and meals are available on Saturday night at the Widgee Bushman's Bar (Widgee Showground).  Free entertainment and good food.   Auctions on Friday and Saturday nights.  All proceeds from the night go back to Angel Flight.  Stay and enjoy the Sunday activities at the Widgee Sportsgrounds.
Facilities for your horse:  Limited yards (BYO yards is safest), water available.

AG Grow Emerald ~ Working Horse Challenge (tba July  2012)

The event: Ag-Grow QMIX, in Emerald, is held annually and is now one of the major agricultural expos on the Australian calendar.  Incorporated in this great event is the Working Horse (or Stockman's) Challenge.  With over $7000 in prize money up for grabs, and held just a week before the infamous Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge, this event attracts up to 50 competitors and showcases some of the great horsemen (and women) this country has to offer, astride some amazing horses.
Whether you want to compete, or just watch some great horsemanship, this event should be on your calendar.

The ride:   Every year the Dayboro Trail Riders Club Inc puts on this great ride which attracts around 200 riders (and growing) for a ride from the valley to the mountains (with views of the bay and islands as never before).

The ride:  This ride was initiated by horsemen (and women) of the Mary Valley riding to save the 1000 homes (and 10000 people) whose lives are affected by the planned damming of the Mary Valley.  The fight has been won ... but the event was so successful, that the ride goes on.  Follow the signs from the town of Kandanga to the mustering point.  Ride starts at 9am sharp on Saturday morning and takes in some breath-taking countryside as you ride into the township of Kandanga for lunch.  Ride back to camp, kick back and enjoy the great entertainment on Saturday night.  Camping is available for both you and your horse (byo yards) Friday and/or Saturday night.  For more information please contact one of the names above.

Tom Quilty Gold Cup Kilkivan (tba 2013)

The event:   Since 1986 the Quilty moves from state to state (covering the six states of Australia), enabling competitors, Australia wide, the opportunity to compete is this prestigious event.  

Competitors will begin at midnight and have 24 hours to complete the 160km course (held over 5 legs).  The coveted prize for completion of this gruelling event is a Quilty Buckle, with the winner receiving the Tom Quilty Gold Cup.
